Semen Analysis or Sperm Count Test!!

Semen analysis is the test which is used to evaluate a man’s fertility. It can help an individual to know the real cause of infertility i.e. low sperm count, motility or quality etc. This test measures the amount and quality of a man’s semen and sperm. Semen is the white, thick sperm containing fluid released during ejaculation.

Normal Sperm Count Values

• Normal semen volume caries from 1.5 – 5.0 milliliter per ejaculation
• Normal sperm count varies from 20 – 150 million sperm per milliliter
• At least 60% of the sperm should show normal forward movement and have a normal shape

If your semen test will show abnormal results i.e. low or high value of sperm count then you can take proper medication of that problem. This test will help you know the exact reason of your infertility so that precautionary measures can be taken to minimize it.

How to perform it?

To perform this test, your health care specialist will need your semen sample.

Semen collection involves masturbating and collecting the sperm into a sterile container. A laboratory specialist then analyses your sample within 2 hours of the collection. The earlier the sample is analyzed, the more reliable the results.

A laboratory specialist will determine the following details:

• Fluid thickness, sugar content and acidity
• Fluid coagulation
• Shape and number of sperms
• Semen volume
• Movement of sperm or motility
• Resistance to flow

It is quite essential to know the exact cause of your infertility problem before opting for any medication. Thus it is advisable to undergo the semen analysis test.
